Decide whether you need to change or cancel a cycle, release a control lock, or investigate an error. The checked WAT28400UC manual gives different owner actions for these states; it doesn't establish a universal Bosch factory-reset sequence.
Name the operation you want
Before pressing more controls, record the complete E-Nr., exact display, selected cycle and whether water remains. Include the slash and two-digit suffix when finding the matching manual.
Stop for escaping water, smoke, damaged electrics or unsafe movement. Don’t use a reset attempt to reproduce a dangerous condition or force a locked door.
WAT28400UC: three different owner actions
The following example comes from printed pages 23–24 of Bosch document 9001363337_A. Match your actual manual and panel before following it.
I selected the wrong cycle
For the checked model: touch Start/Pause, select the intended cycle, then touch Start/Pause. The new cycle begins from the start.
I need to cancel the cycle
The manual separates hot and cool loads: Start/Pause, choose Rinse to cool high-temperature laundry or Drain for a low-temperature cycle, then Start/Pause. Let the documented operation complete.
The controls are locked
For this panel, hold Temperature and Finish in for about three seconds to toggle the child lock. Switching off can leave it active. This differs from a cycle cancellation.
A paused door may remain locked because of water level, heat or drum movement. Don’t force it or transfer an emergency-release method from another model.
If a fault is displayed, use its own branch
Bosch’s U.S. support page has a general operational-fault branch under “All other fault codes”: switch off and on; if it repeats, disconnect power for at least 30 seconds and reconnect. If the message returns, contact Bosch with the exact display. Use that branch only when it applies and safe power access is available.
Named faults can require a different response. For example, the same page associates E:00 alternating with -23 with water in the base or leakage and directs owners to turn off the water tap and contact support. Don’t replace that instruction with a generic restart.
For a drain-related E18 concern, use the model-scoped E18 guide. Keep the retained-water state with the message rather than choosing a pump or control board from the code alone.
If you mean a factory or service reset
Changing a wash program, releasing a control lock and recovering from an operational message answer different questions. State the setting or behavior you want to restore when requesting instructions.
This guide doesn’t establish a factory-reset, calibration, network-reset or service-mode procedure for every Bosch washer. A series name, an online dial sequence or a similar-looking panel isn’t enough to choose one. Ask Bosch for the instruction that matches the complete E-Nr. and intended operation.
Record what changed
After the applicable owner action, note whether the intended selection worked, the control-lock state changed or the message returned. A display that clears doesn’t by itself establish a repaired component. Repeated interruption, persistent locking or another failed function needs model-specific assessment.
