Copy the field marked model from the appliance label, including every suffix. Keep the serial number separate.
Read the label, not the marketing name
With the washer stopped, look only in safely accessible label areas. Use the official locator for the brand and washer design.
Find the applicable label location
Whirlpool front-load or top-load
Whirlpool’s locator identifies the door-opening rim for front-load washers and the tub rim beneath the lid for top-load washers. Wait for safe release and follow the exact-design locator if it differs.
Another brand, or no label in that area
Use that brand’s design-specific locator. An accessible door-frame label can be read safely after release, but its location isn’t universal. Don’t open cabinet panels to search.
Verify the record before using it
Photograph or transcribe the complete model and preserve the label evidence. Match the full identifier and market to the applicable manual or parts record. Resolve conflicts with the manufacturer before choosing instructions or ordering a part.
Three fields to keep together
- Brand and complete model
- Preserve suffixes and punctuation exactly as printed.
- Separate serial number
- Keep it in its own field with a readable label photograph.
- Matching document link
- Save the applicable manual or parts record and its revision. A visually similar machine doesn’t establish compatibility.
Sources and applicability
- Whirlpool: model and serial locator: Brand locator; exact label location varies by appliance.
- GE: top-load model locator: Brand/design-specific locator; not universal.
