A puddle’s location can differ from the leak’s source. Contain the leak before trying to identify where it began.
Contain · Observe · Locate
Stop first. Then check the visible connections.
With the washer stopped and supplies safely shut off where reachable, look at accessible supply and drain connections for moisture or damage. Keep a hidden origin recorded as unknown.
Where did you first see water?
Use what you can safely see. More than one area may be wet.
- At an external hose connection
- Record exactly which connection is wet. A hose or connection is a candidate, but replacement and reconnection still need the applicable washer and hose instructions.
Check drain-hose scope - At a front-load door
- When the washer is off and safe to access, look for trapped fabric, debris or visible seal damage. Don’t force a locked door or stretch a damaged gasket.
Door-seal assessment - At the dispenser, with excess foam
- Check the detergent type and measured amount against the washer instructions. Excess detergent may contribute, but it doesn’t rule out a separate fault.
- Underneath, with no visible origin
- Keep the water off and arrange inspection. A puddle underneath can’t distinguish an internal hose, seal, valve or pump.
Add the timing to the location
Record whether you first noticed water during fill, washing, drainage or after the cycle. Keep that observation separate from a suspected part. Don’t restart an active leak to fill a gap in your notes.
A visible correction needs a safe verification
Correct only an identified, accessible issue using the applicable instructions. Resume use only when the area is safe and the repair is suitable for the model. A continuing or concealed leak needs service. A drain pan doesn’t fix its cause.
Repair scope and service boundaries
Identifying a wet connection is an external observation. Replacing a hose requires safe shutoff and documented connection guidance. Internal leaks need an assessment. Verify fitment before a confirmed replacement and include water damage or repeat-leak history in the complete repair-versus-replacement decision.
What to give the repair provider
Full model and suffix, first visible leak location, cycle stage, exact message and photographs from a safe position. Keep uninspected areas marked unchecked rather than assuming they are dry.
Technical information and sources
These manufacturer references support general principles for the products they describe. Their measurements, tests, reset procedures and part matches must be verified for your full model.
internal leak location, seal and hose fitment, connection torque and installation, verified repair quote, model specific test cycle. Obtain the relevant manufacturer instructions or a verified service diagnosis before using these details.
