Whirlpool Washer F22: Check Door Closure Before Choosing a Lock

Decode the display, then check

Whirlpool’s front-load F22 reference describes a front-door lock issue. Start with visible closure conditions, then distinguish them from an internal lock fault.

Does the door close without obstruction?

Stop the washer and check the accessible opening for trapped laundry or shipping material. Do not push an overflowing load behind the door to make it close. Whirlpool’s F22 guide includes blocked closure, detergent residue near the lock and excessive loading among its checks.

Do not force a locked door, bypass the interlock or open into retained water. A door that will not release needs its own model-specific route.

Choose the closure result

Select the finding that matches your washer

Free the trapped item only when the door can be opened normally and safely. Use the model’s loading guidance, then check whether ordinary closure and operation return. Do not diagnose a failed assembly from an obstructed door.

The checked article permits gentle cleaning with a soft damp cloth. Keep liquids out of electrical openings, do not spray the mechanism and do not disassemble it. Follow the model’s care instructions.

Record whether the door physically closes and whether a lock attempt is heard. Arrange model-specific diagnosis. That observation does not distinguish wiring, control and lock faults by itself.

Before replacing the latch

Keep F22 separate from an incomplete F2 or an alternating two-part code. Ask which test supports the proposed repair and which full-model catalog record identifies the replacement. This page does not supply internal testing or universal part compatibility.
