Washer height and depth depend on the exact model and on what the measurement includes. Separate the closed machine, open lid or door, installation space and delivery route before deciding whether it fits.
Start with the full model and the dimension label
Find the full model, including suffix, and its matching market-specific specification and installation instructions. Record each figure with its heading and unit. Product, carton and cutout measurements describe different things.
Don’t substitute drum capacity for outside size. The capacity guide explains how to identify the listed cubic-foot rating; this page addresses height, depth and physical space.
Exact examples show why there isn’t one washer height
| Product measurement | WT7400CW, June 2022 sheet | WT8400CW, February 2024 sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 27 inches | 27 inches |
| Height | 44 1/2 inches | 43 inches |
| Depth | 28 3/8 inches | 28 3/8 inches |
These two top-loaders share a listed depth but differ in height. The numbers aren’t a standard for every top-loader, another suffix or a different market. Both sheets describe non-metric measurements as approximate.
The WT7400C_ dimensions table separately lists 57 1/4 inches with the lid open and a 29 × 58 × 32 3/8-inch cutout, in width × height × depth order. Those aren’t alternative closed-product dimensions. Match the full installation requirements before applying that dated planning example to a room.
Compare four kinds of space
- Closed machine: use the product height and depth for the exact configuration. Check whether accessories or other projections change the dimensions you need.
- Operating access: verify the model’s fully open lid or door and usable loading space. Compare overhead shelves, counters and doors with that opening envelope.
- Installation: use the applicable cutout and clearance requirements, including connections, ventilation and access. Don’t assume a cabinet-depth number includes room behind it.
- Delivery: record the entrance, narrow doors, halls and route to the final location. Establish the delivery configuration with the installer; don’t use the product and shipping-carton sizes interchangeably.
The WT8400C_ sheet, for example, gives a carton depth of 31 1/2 inches rather than the product’s 28 3/8 inches. That distinction matters to the delivery question, but doesn’t establish that either measurement clears every turn or doorway.
Record the room without forcing the appliance
Whirlpool’s room guide calls for narrowest-width checks at floor and appliance height, room depth, ceiling/lid space, delivery openings and hookup locations. Keep those observations beside the exact model’s requirements.
Measure accessible space without pulling a connected washer against its hoses or moving a heavy appliance alone. If a connection, projection or hidden dimension can’t be checked safely, have the installer verify it.
For a pedestal, stacking arrangement, closet or countertop installation, obtain the documents for that complete configuration. Don’t remove a washer top, trim a cabinet or change an appliance just to match a nominal size.
Decide from the complete fit record
Proceed only when the product, opening access, installation requirements and delivery route all match the measured space. If a document omits a needed dimension or conflicts with another record, ask the maker or installer and keep fit unresolved.
No single rear gap, lid allowance or front-loading depth applies to every washer. Keep physical fit separate from configuration preferences and the two LG models’ feature comparison.
