A humming or slow washer motor doesn’t prove a capacitor has failed. Confirm that the exact washer uses the proposed capacitor and obtain a documented motor-circuit diagnosis before ordering.
Keep the observation separate from the diagnosis
Record the complete washer model and suffix, which wash or spin movements fail, whether water remains and the exact displayed message. If you hear humming, record when it occurs without repeatedly trying to start the machine. Stop for overheating, a burning smell or electrical warning signs.
Ask whether the exact model’s documented motor circuit actually uses the capacitor being proposed. A part listing or online “four-wire capacitor” diagram doesn’t establish that design.
What the manufacturer example establishes
Whirlpool’s technician sheet W11082888 Rev. C includes a motor-run-capacitor check within its motor-circuit diagnosis. It notes that a faulty capacitor can be associated with humming, failure to start or slow turning on the covered design.
The capacitor check is part of a larger procedure involving the motor circuit and control path. Those symptoms aren’t exclusive proof of capacitor failure, and the sheet doesn’t establish your washer’s applicable test or replacement part.
Unplugging isn’t a capacitor-handling procedure
The cited technician procedure includes controlled discharge before handling capacitor connections. Don’t touch terminals, bridge them with a tool or follow a generic discharge or wiring demonstration. This page doesn’t provide a consumer capacitor test.
Leave cabinet access, stored-charge handling and electrical diagnosis to someone with the applicable procedure and suitable qualifications. Don’t open a machine simply to photograph an internal capacitor label.
Build the exact replacement record
- Match the full appliance identifier to the applicable manufacturer motor-circuit and parts records.
- Establish the diagnosed component and the exact listed replacement or documented supersession.
- Have the provider verify all required electrical ratings, terminal arrangement, mounting and included hardware against those records.
- Obtain the repair and post-repair verification scope before ordering.
A matching shape or terminal count isn’t sufficient. Don’t substitute a different rating or reinterpret a start/run label from appearance.
GE example: read the replacement chain before ordering
GE’s GTW465ASN9WW catalog lists capacitor WH12X29017 at diagram number 8 and bracket-capacitor WH13X28838 at number 9 as no longer available. Both notices point to WH12X27614. GE names that replacement record “KIT BRACKET CAPACITOR” and says to confirm the model number.
Two older diagram entries pointing to the same replacement record don’t establish that you need two kits. Ask GE or the supplier to confirm the current replacement, quantity and included hardware for the exact diagnosed repair. The record doesn’t provide itemized contents or electrical test instructions. Use the GE full-model parts route; this example isn’t fitment for every GE washer.
Approve a confirmed repair scope
Ask what findings support the capacitor diagnosis and whether the quote includes other confirmed motor, wiring or control work. Keep required setup and outcome verification in the same scope.
If no diagnosis has been established, continue the model-specific investigation rather than buying a capacitor as a trial. If a completed repair doesn’t resolve the symptom, retain the findings and seek reassessment instead of ordering another part.
