Remove and Clean an LG Washer Detergent Drawer: Match the Design

Match your LG drawer to its owner instructions before removal. A conventional front-load tray and the illustrated ezDispense reservoir use different releases and cleaning steps. Don't force a drawer using another design's method.

Match the release before pulling farther

Record the full model and compare the dispenser with its manual and the linked LG illustrations. Stop the washer and follow the required power-isolation and care precautions from a dry, safe position. Keep children and pets away from removed compartments and laundry products.

A tray with a release tab, an automatic reservoir and a top-load dispenser compartment aren’t the same assembly. If your hardware differs from either example below, use the matching owner procedure. Don’t pry the drawer or dismantle its surrounding housing.

Conventional front-load drawer example

  1. In LG’s pictured front-load design, pull the drawer to its stop. Press the depressed tab between the bleach and softener compartments while withdrawing it.
  2. Remove the inserts identified in the instructions. Clean the drawer and inserts with warm water and a soft-bristled brush, then rinse.
  3. Reassemble the inserts in their correct positions and return the drawer to the washer. LG excludes dishwasher cleaning because parts can melt or warp.

LG’s dispenser-maintenance guidance specifies water and a soft cloth or brush, excludes soap for drawer/insert cleaning and calls for wiping away moisture. Don’t add a tub-cleaning chemical recipe to this task.

Illustrated ezDispense reservoir example

Use these steps only when the yellow release, handles, compartments and rear valves match the applicable instructions.

  1. Hold the yellow button while removing the drawer.
  2. Lift the compartment using its front handle. Use the rear handle to open its lid; the rear handle isn’t the compartment-lifting point.
  3. Turn the rear check valve counterclockwise to open it. Clean the inside with water and a soft brush, rinse the detergent sensor and dry with a soft cloth.
  4. Align the valve threads and turn clockwise until securely locked. Close the compartment lid securely.
  5. Seat each compartment rear first. Hold the yellow button while sliding the drawer back in.

LG notes that illustrations can differ from the actual product. If the refill alert remains after the applicable cleaning, its guidance calls for service.

Verify reassembly before returning to use

Check that each removed insert, lid and valve is in its documented position and the drawer seats normally. If a piece won’t engage, threads don’t align, the release remains stuck or a part is cracked, stop rather than forcing it closed.

Use only the model’s permitted return-to-use check. Record any leakage, continuing dispensing problem or repeated alert. Cleaning doesn’t identify a failed dispenser, water valve or electronic control. Give LG the complete model, affected compartment, product used and observed result for the next step.
